"Hearts Don't Lie" is the second single to be taken from Ten and the only Xenomania song on the album. It was written by Gabriella Cilmi, Miranda Cooper, Brian Higgins, Tim Powell & Owen Parker and produced by Xenomania.
Gabriella has said that "Hearts Don't Lie" is her favourite song on the album, with a Bee Gees-inspired chorus, a Betty Davis-inspired bassline and a modern disco sound.

Gabriella Cilmi recently told The Telegraph that her new single "Hearts Don't Lie" (out tomorrow digitally) was created out of a disagreement with Brian Higgins:
«I wrote that with Brian Higgins, who produced my first record, and we actually had a bit of a tiff while we were writing it. I kind of stormed out, and he stormed out, and then we came back together and wrote this song», she said.
She also spoke to Digital Spy about working with Higgins: «I really like working with Brian because I think he brings out the best in me. On 'Hearts Don't Lie', the funny operatic vocal in the chorus started with me mucking around. He knows how to make my silliness good. Hopefully we can work together again - we did have a few tiffs, because when I'm recording I sulk, but I think it all turned out for the best in the end.»
«[Xenomania are] kind of crazy», she told GayDarNation. «I started working with them when I was 13. Brian, I guess, took me under his wing. He taught me a lot but we used to fight a lot, actually. We used to have arguments all the time about how we thought things should sound. But when we agreed on things, we really agreed.»
«I mean, they have a great technique and way of writing. We’ve got an awesome track on this album called ‘Hearts Don’t Lie’. It’s really funky and it’s got this kind of Betty Davis style bass line and an almost Bee Gee’s inspired chorus. Xenomania will take part in a Producers Masterclass Series at the British Music Experience. Other producers in the event (dates TBC) include John Leckie (Stone Roses, Radiohead, The Fall) and Steve Lyon (Depeche Mode, The Cure).
Gabriella Cilmi says that Xenomania only worked on one song on her new album because they were busy: "It was fun. We only ended up having one track on the record as they're so busy with other things. It's called Hearts Don't Lie and actually turned out to be one of my favourite tracks on the album. It was really fun working with them and the track has a really funky bass line."
Songwriter/vocal producer Thaddis "Kuk" Harrell is collaborating with Xenomania. Kuk Harrell is a member of a songwriting/production team composed of himself, Tricky Stewart and Terius "The Dream" Nash. He was the vocal producer and co-writer of Rihanna's "Umbrella", and a composer and engineer on Beyonce's "Single Ladies". He also produced Alesha Dixon's "Let's Get Excited" and the majority of the vocals on Mary J. Blige's album Growing Pains.
Producer/remixer Michael "Jaxon" Bellina has also been working with Xenomania. Jaxon is known for his work with DJs Phil Fuldner and Moguai. His Xenomania credits include Mini Viva's "Bedroom Viber", Sugababes' "In The Middle" and Girls Aloud's "Fling" and "Something Kinda Ooooh".
Sarah Harding has become the third Girls Aloud singer to announce she's working on a solo album. Sarah told The Sun that she wants to "step away from cheesy pop". Oh dear. Not the best choice of words to sum up the soundofGirlsAloud.

Alex Gardner and his guitarist Tommy are on the road on a radio tour. They are going to be on the road until next Monday and going through Manchester, Stockport, Birmingham and Liverpool (stations include The Pulse, Rock FM, Wish FM, Key 103, Real Radio North West, Juice 107.6, Imagine FM, Radio City in Liverpool, Signal One and BRMB in Birmingham).
A girl auditioned on American Idol with "Something Kinda Ooooh" by Girls Aloud. After she finished singing, Simon Cowell said, sarcastically, «One of the most meaningful lyrics ever written», to which fellow judge Victoria "Posh" Beckham replied: «Better than zigazig-ah?». Fred Falke said in an interview that he really enjoys collaborating with Xenomania: «I really enjoy my time spent with at Xenomania, a writer and production team based in Kent, England. I get to work in a team of brilliant people, with them for Mini Viva recently was a wonderful experience.»
Former Xenomania singer/songwriter Carla Marie Williams has set up a joint venture production/management company called BigMouthEntertainment. They are about to launch their first act, a new female collective called RD (aka Ruff Diamondz). With Xenomania, Carla-Marie co-wrote several Girls Aloud songs (including "The Promise" and "Sexy! No No No..."), Alesha Dixon's "The Boy Does Nothing", Mini Viva's "Left My Heart In Tokyo", Sarah Harding's "Too Bad" and many others. She also sang with Neil Tennant on Pet Shop Boys' "The way it used to be".
Mini Viva will be DJing at two upcoming nights in the UK: The Nightingale in Birmingham on 13th March and a TBC venue in Leicester on 22nd February. Keep checking their MySpace for the confirmed Leicester venue.

The Beat Review has reviewed the song: «It kind of redeemed her identity back after that gruesome 'On A Mission' (...). 'Hearts Don't Lie' doesn't escape the 1980's sound Gabby's trying to achieve. Gabriella told Digital Spy: «I only did one track with Xenomania, but it's a bloody unreal track called 'Hearts Don't Lie' that could be one of my favourites. The chorus is like the Bee Gees and the bass line is so funky!».
She added that "Hearts Don't Lie" is possibly «the most surprising track» on the album. Ten will feature «lots of uptempo funk and disco-inspired numbers designed to make people groove».
In addition to working with Xenomania (who produced her debut album Lessons To Be Learned), Cilmi has also been in the studio with Dallas Austin, Greg Kurstin and upcoming British production team Invisible Men (one of its members is Jon Shave, who used to work with Xenomania).
"On A Mission", the first single from the album, was produced by The Invisible Men and will be released digitally on Sunday 7th March. The album follows on 22nd March and is now available to pre-order on Play.com.
"Warm This Winter" is a cover of a Connie Francis single released in December 1962 (originally titled "I'm Gonna Be Warm This Winter"). Gabriella Cilmi's version was produced by Xenomania and was featured in television advertisements for the Co-operative retail chain in the UK over the 2008 Christmas period.
"Warm This Winter" was released as a digital download and peaked at number 22 on the UK Singles Chart, outranking Cilmi's precedent physical singles "Sanctuary" and "Save the Lies". The song was added to the deluxe edition of her debut album Lessons To Be Learned. It has been receiving enough downloads this year to appear at #94 on the UK Singles Chart.
Gabriella Cilmi's version of the song alters the opening line from "We met at a ski lodge" to "We met in the winter", but other than that remains faithful to the original. The arrangements are a bit more lively and the vocals are more dominant and have more depth. Connie Francis' voice is more pure, but Cilmi's soulful delivery is certainly well-suited for a lost '60s Christmas song.

Gabriella Cilmi's "Sweet About Me" was the most played song in the UK this year, according to PRS for Music, the organisation that collects royalties for songwriters.

PRS for Music has launched its first ever annual chart of music makers, listing the 100 most played songs of 2009. The data is taken from number of plays and performances on-line, live, on TV and radio.
"Sweet About Me" was a number six hit in the UK last year, spending 37 consecutive weeks on the UK Singles Chart. The song was used in commercials for Sure and Dove Bodywash in Europe. Gabriella Cilmi has been busy recording her new album, due to be released in the new year. She has once again teamed up with Xenomania but has also recruited other producers such as Greg Kurstin.
The 18-year-old singer told the Daily Star: «The album is now being mixed and it’s in a totally new direction. It’s been inspired by Donna Summer, Flashdance and 80s disco. The 80s sound is popular at the moment but I’m doing part of the era that hasn’t been touched. It also has a slightly 70s feel and that is my favourite era.»
She added: «Most of the material for the album was written in a studio five doors up from my place when I was in my pyjamas. The first single is all about unleashing your inner super-hero and it’s a big anthem for women.»

Gabriella Cilmi's "Sweet About Me" is in the running for an Ivor Novello award for Most Performed Work. The song is up against "Mercy" by Duffy and "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay.
The Ivor Novello Awards recognise the best British songwriting and composing. The ceremony will be held on Thursday 21st May 2009. See the full list of nominees.
In the past, Xenomania have been nominated for the Sugababes single "Hole In The Head". In 1999, Cher's "Believe" won three Ivor Novello awards for Best Song Musically and Lyrically, Best Selling British Single (decided by sales) and International hit of the year.
"Believe" was written by Brian Higgins, Stuart McLennan, Paul Barry, Steve Torch, Matt Gray and Tim Powell. At the time, people started noticing a big change in the way that pop compositions are credited. An Ivor Novello spokesperson said: «In the past, there would have been one writer for the music and one for the lyrics, but now often the whole band is credited, or there is a string of names.»
"Sweet About Me" was written by Gabriella Cilmi, Miranda Cooper, Brian Higgins, Tim Larcombe, Tim Powell and Nick Coler. The song has charted in 18 different charts. Its peak position was number 1, on the Norwegian Singles Chart and the Australian ARIA Singles Chart, making her the youngest ever solo artist to achieve the top spot in ARIA history.
Speaking to The Daily Star, Gabriella Cilmi revealed that her new material is «sounding more R&B». She is writing a new album with Xenomania, Invisible Men and Eg White.
«I toyed with rap on one of my current songs "Save The Lies". It didn’t really work out, but it hasn’t put me off. I’m going to give it another go for sure», she said.
«I've been listening to a lot of Blondie too, especially their song "Rapture". It's a direction I’m keen to continue with, but I’ve only written a couple of tracks with Brian Higgins so far, so it’s too early to really say».
Gabriella told the Herald Sun that new songs may also be a bit darker: «I'm finding it hard to write about light-hearted things now. I wrote a lot of fun tunes on my last record, but the new songs are a little dark and twisted».
Meanwhile, Gabriella is currently being launched in the United States, after receiving a Brit Award nomination for Best International Female Solo Artist (she's up against Beyoncé, Pink, Santogold and Kate Perry). Lessons To Be Learned is scheduled for an American release March 17, 2009.

--- Pet Shop Boys have been at Abbey Road studios recording strings and brass on two songs for their new album. On the band's official site, Neil Tennant said that the album only features two songs with an orchestra. «Generally it's more electronic-sounding than the last album», he added.

--- Former Guns'n'Roses bassist Duff MacKagan has declared himself a Girls Aloud fan: «Girls Aloud — I’m like, ‘What the hell is this?’ It’s amazing, like great pop songs, you know — like the whole stick . . . I think it’s brilliant.»
Brian Higgins' collaborations with Saint Etienne began on the Motiv8 remixes of "Hug My Soul", in 1994, and "He's On The Phone", in 1995. "He's On The Phone" became one of the band's biggest hits, reaching the #11 position on the UK singles chart. Back then, Brian Higgins was only working as a "production assistant" with Steve Rodway. Now, Higgins leads the Xenomania powerhouse.
On an interview with the Manchester Evening News, Saint Etienne's Bob Stanley said, in a very tongue-in-cheek manner: «He was an engineer back then. So his success now is entirely down to us». Their relationship has endured until today, with Bob Stanley working part-time as an A&R at Xenomania, and Sarah Cracknell and Pete Wiggs contributing as freelance writers. Gabriella Cilmi's latest single, "Save The Lies", is an example of that collaboration.
Xenomania have also re-remixed Saint Etienne's "lost single" "Burnt Out Car", which, according to the article, is released on September 22. The album London Conversations: The Best of Saint Etienne follows on September 29.
--- "Burnt Out Car 2008" release date: The onlinestores that have the 7'' single available for pre-order seem to believe that it will be released on September 8. But Saint Etienne's Bob Stanley wrote two different posts today on the band's MySpace blog, each with a different release date (September 22nd and 15th). The most likely date is however September 15, as Bob added that the single will be out a day after Heavenly's 18th birthday party (St. Etienne headline on September 14). You can listen to a 30-second clip of "Burnt Out Car 2008" on BBC 6 Music and vote for it to gain some airplay.

Gabriella Cilmi's new single in the UK, "Save The Lies (Good To Me)", gets its official release as a maxi-CD today. Also available to buy are two digital EP bundles, one with remixes and the other with cover versions of Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me A River" and of the old standard "Fly Me To The Moon" (which has been recorded by Frank Sinatra, Connie Francis, Tony Bennett, among others).
The new radio version of "Save The Lies (Good To Me)" includes extra layers of vocals and synths. The song was written by Gabriella Cilmi, Miranda Cooper, Brian Higgins, Tim Powell, Bob Bradley (who was previously responsible for the opening bass riff on Sugababes' "Red Dress") and Saint Etienne's Bob Stanley & Pete Wiggs.
The single has been receiving mixed reviews. While some praise her attitude, enthusiasm and varied sonic styles, others have criticized the song's "cheap faux-feminist ‘empowering’ lyric" and Gabriella's similarities to the singer Anastacia, "notably in her contralto voice and noisy growl":
